Nicole Bennett Obituary

Nicole Stephanie Bennett, fondly known as Joelle to her family and Rose to her dear friends, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022, after a long battle with Cancer.  Nicole was 53 years old and a resident of Jersey City in the state of New Jersey. She passed that faithful morning after listening to praise and worship songs and having the company of Tanique, Sophia, Caiden, and friends by her side.

Nicole was born in Kingston, Jamaica, on October 28, 1968, to Joan Nelson and Archibale Bennett.  She was loved and adored by her Dad and was often raised high in his arms as he refused to put his firstborn down.  She was also the first grandchild of Archie’s mother, Pearl, and as such, Grandma Pearl took Nicole, aka Joelle, and raised her as a favored granddaughter and daughter.

Nicole’s dad Archie selected the prestigious Vaz Preparatory School to educate and train his daughter as she navigates her younger years.  After completing her studies at Vaz Preparatory School, Nicole took her exit exams and gained a successful placement at the co-educational Excelsior High School.  Excelsior High school program includes academics, sports, and performing arts, all of interest to Nicole.  Still, she never forgot her school motto (Age Animo), which translates (Do It With Thy Might).

After high school, Nicole attended Alpha Business College, specializing in shorthand dictation and typing.  Following graduation, Nicole gained employment with the Government of Jamaica -Jamaica Customs  Agency and worked with them until she immigrated to the USA.  Soon after arriving in the USA in 1990, Nicole continued her studies and worked for a short time at Alamo Car Rental until 1998 she found her dream job with Colgate-Palmolive Company.  It was sheer excitement and joy when Nicole started at Colgate in 1998 as the Administrative Assistant to the Product Supply Chain Integration group in New York. Nicole’s tenor at Colgate spanned some 24 years, where she worked within various departments and was still employed with Colgate until her passing.

Tanique is Nicole’s one and only child.  She gave birth to the bouncing baby girl on October 08, 1989.  Tanique was an early birthday gift to Nicole as she celebrated her 21st birthday precisely 20 days after Tanique was born.   Fourteen years ago, she became a grandmother to Caiden, and they both had sheer-fond moments riding the train and watching locomotives together.

Nicole is a disciple of Christ and embraced the doctrines of and worshipped at the Kingston Church of Christ in Jamaica and ultimately at the Garden State Church of New Jersey / New York Church of Christ.  Nicole participated in several church groups, ministries, and singles ministries and enjoyed her weekly Bible fellowship and small group sharings and events.  She was forever an evangelist and was quick to share Jesus’ love for her and others everywhere she went.

Nicole will always be known for her kindness to others in life and death.  She always had a smile ready, and her laughter was her trademark sound that she was enjoying herself and having a good time.  Nicole loved West Indian Food.  Her favorite was the Jamaican National Dish of Ackee and Saltfish, served with fried dumplings or roasted breadfruit.  In addition, she always craved her Jamaica Rum Cake, Sorrel wine, sweet potato pudding, soursop juices, and  Jamaican fruit (black) cake.  She would always enjoy thanksgiving and other holidays with those who could cook Jamaica / West Indian jerk chicken, curried goat, rice and peas, pepperpot soup, fish tea, and Manish Water.

Although Nicole lost her battle with Cancer, she was always a soldier on a relentless journey.  She held deeply to her alma mater motto of (Age Animo), which translates (Do It With Thy Might).  She fought to keep her immune system strong and healthy for almost ten (10) years by opting for holistic treatments and fighting with all her might.

She is preceded in death by her Grandma Pearl and Uncle Ronald.  Her legacy continues with her father Archie, daughter Tanique, grandson Caiden, Sophia, Margarett, Siblings, Cousins, Friends, and many others whose lives she touched and left her unforgettable mark.

REST IN PEACE, MY  DEAR.
