Chiquetta Majorie Hart Polite was born January 18, 1950 to Oscar and Gwendolyn
Deas Hart. She was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church in Charleston, South
Carolina.
After the death of her father Oscar and the marriage of the mother to Christopher
C. Polite Jr. the family moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina. While in Fayetteville
Chiquetta converted to Catholicism. After Christopher death the family moved
back to Charleston. Chiquetta began her interest in track and field not only was
she an excellent athlete, but she was also a great student. She loved memorizing
and reciting poetry. Her favorite poem was “A Leak in the dyke” by Phoebe Cary.
Chiquetta also excelled in all business classes and was an excellent speller. She
won many Spelling Bee Contest.
After graduating from Burke High School (Class of 1968). She attended and
graduated from Durham Business College in Durham, North Carolina with a
degree in Business Administration.
Chiquetta married the love of her life and high school sweetheart Bernard I.
Drayton. They moved to Jersey City, she held many positions and retired as
Senior Clerk in the Engineering Department in 2012.
Chiquetta was a very caring and giving person.
Chiquetta was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Yama D. Hart
Polite , Oscar M. Hart Polite. Grandparents and a Granddaughter Bria Monae
Drayton.
Chiquetta leaves to cherish her memories (husband) Bernard I. Drayton, (children)
Sabata Bernard Drayton and Schnicqua Tamis Drayton, (grandchildren) Olivia
Raven Brown and London Malani Sanderson, (Sister) Roxanne R. Hart Polite Wall
(Charles), Demetria A. Polite, (Brother) Christopher C. Polite III, (Brothers) in-law
Eugene Drayton and Julius Manigault, (Aunts) Jacquelyn Deas Benbow and Jane
Polite Roman, (Uncles) Raymond Polite C. (Frances), Raje Polite (Shirley) a special
cousin Darlene "Shortie" Mazyck and many other cousins and friends.
